Posted in: Workplace | Posted by Rebecca Ingram on December 22, 2017

‘Tis the season… the annual festive time for presents and parties, for connecting and catching up, for good food with good friends and family. It is also a time for giving and sharing, a time for thinking of others and of those less fortunate, a time to be grateful for all that we have, and a time to reflect on all we have done throughout the year. As we head into our 30th year in business, BCL Consulting is pleased to continue to provide support to a number of charitable organizations through volunteer and participation initiatives not only at Christmas but throughout the year. We are proud to continue our service work in the community during the holiday season by participating in the Salvation Army Christmas Kettle Campaign in Calgary, and sponsoring families through the Christmas Bureau Hamper in Edmonton. This year, as an alternative to giving out client appreciation […]

It may require staffing a completely seasonal business where there is no existing or experienced staff. Seasonal workers are often young and/or inexperienced, and for many it is their first job and exposure to a workplace. Others see seasonal work as an opportunity to […]

Summer is here! The season of sunshine, warm weather, vacations, festivals, exhibitions, concerts, Stampede, landscaping, outdoor activities and, of course, construction. It’s also one of the busiest times of the year for seasonal hires –  whether it is extra staff to handle the peak traffic at resorts, camp counsellors, summer students to cover vacations, special event workers or extra manpower to complete construction and other projects while the weather permits. With the hire of new employees, whether permanent, temporary or seasonal, workplace safety should be an integral part of the on-boarding process and ongoing operations. Let’s explore more about Seasonal Worker Safety: Greater Risks for New Hires A recent study by the Institution for Work & Health (IWH), based on research over a 10 year period, indicates that there is a higher risk of work injury among workers new to a job and virtually every seasonal worker is ‘new’. The […]
